Have you ever wondered who God truly is? This is important if you want to be a true Christian. You might have grown up as an atheist or you might have just never really cared about it up until this moment. You need to understand that God is not an old guy in the sky. God is not creation itself either. He’s much more powerful than that. He created everything by just his will. He created all the millions of planets, the different galaxies, the huge sun that is so big that the earth can fit inside it a million times. When you look at our planet with its amazing circle of life to all the plants and animals big and small. Then you get us humans, perfectly designed to see, hear, smell, touch, and taste.
God is not creation itself, He is the Creator and not only that He created with perfect knowledge and perfect wisdom, He also sustains it.
“Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.” – Hebrews 1:3
“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him.” – Colossians 1:16
What is this God like that created everything and designed everything so perfectly? He revealed Himself to humans thousands of years ago. He told them to write it all down right from the beginning of creation all the way up to when Jesus became the Savior. He also told us what will happen in the future. It has all been written down in a book called the Bible. Within the Bible, God revealed himself to us, who he is, and what he is like.
24 “God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;25 Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation.” – Acts 17:24-26
In Him we live and move and have our being. How is that possible? Because God is spirit.
“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:24
God is not an impersonal God who wants nothing to do with you. In fact, he’s a God of love and He created you and wants a relationship with you where you get to know Him as your Father.
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20
God cares for you. He’s probably the only one who truly loves you in this world. The world that we live in today does not understand what true love really is but God does because he is love.
“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.” – 1 Peter 5:6
“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.” – 1 John 4:7
Some people say this can’t be true because just look at the world and all the bad things in this world. Don’t blame God for what people are doing. It is people who do evil acts. The evil hearts and minds of people craving darkness to do sinful things that hurt each other. It is the evil heart of man that kills, rapes, and steals but God is righteous and he will judge every single human for their actions.
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” – Jeremiah 17:9
This is another attribute of God. He is righteous and there is no one as righteous as God.
“God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.” – Psalm 7:11
“The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.” – Psalm 145:17
God is the only one that is truly righteous there is none like Him. He is perfect, He is pure, He is holy. There is no sin or darkness in Him at all because He is the light.
“There is none holy as the Lord: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.” – 1 Samuel 2:2
“This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5
People in this world are not perfect. People will always let you down, but God never will because God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He is the only one that is consistent.
“For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.” Malachi 3:6
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” – Hebrews 13:8
This is what God is like. You can’t fit Him into one label. His greatness is far more than you can even comprehend. He is almighty God El Shaddai.
“And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.” Genesis 17:1
Do you sometimes feel like people don’t understand you and at times you don’t even understand yourself? God understands you. He is all-knowing. Even before you say anything or do anything or think anything, God knows it.
“For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.” Psalm 139:4
He is not mortal and as mortals we don’t understand. He’s might, He is immortal, He doesn’t have a beginning and He doesn’t have an end. He is the Alpha and the Omega.
“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.” – Revelation 22:13
